Uganda’s Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny Dollo has declared NRM’s candidate and Omoro County MP also former Deputy Speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah as the speaker of the 11th parliament after defeating the former speaker of parliament and also Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga who contested as an independent after being denied NRM card and FDC candidate, former opposition chief whip and Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.
Oulanya garnered 310 ,kadaga got 197 votes While Nganda got 15 votes
Jacob Oulanyah’s nomination was proposed by Isingiro North MP Bright Rwamirama (NRM) and seconded by UPC’s Betty Among while Rebecca Kadaga’s Nomination was proposed by Luuka South MP Kisa Steven (NRM) and seconded by Busia Municipality MP Geoffrey Macho (Independent) and Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda was proposed by Makidye West MP. Allan Ssewanyana Aloysius (NUP) and seconded by Soroti City East Moses Attan (FDC)
Now Oulanyah is presiding over the elections of his deputy at Kololo Airstrip
The maiden sitting is also being attended by the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni
