The Opposition Democratic Party (DP) has urged its members both old and new to all embrace and fully participate in the ongoing party membership registration exercise as we head to 2026 general elections.
The call was made by the acting party spokesperson Ismael Kiirya during the party’s weekly presser head at its headquarters Kampala saying the exercise has now been advanced to almost 80% of the district which makes up Uganda.
He says the exercise is paramount because it’s the one driving the creation of the new leadership of Democratic Party. He adds that membership registration starts from the village and once they start rolling out on the leadership renewal, they will base on those membership books meaning that only those registered will be allowed to participate in the leadership renewal exercise both local and the national level.

Meanwhile, Kiirya further disclosed the party’s perspective regarding Ugandan heroes saying according to what they have observed at the National heroes day, it’s like the heroes of Uganda begin in 1986 which is too totally wrong.
He says heroes are those who added something to this nation, and not necessarily those who fought.
